Courses offered

An introduction to Italian

This 5 week course is designed with those students in mind who would like to learn how to speak and write Italian but who do not want or need a qualification. Starting with the basics such as 'greetings' and 'numbers', 'days of the week' and 'time' students will progress to topics such as 'eating out', 'booking rooms' and 'getting around'. Students will learn how to both speak and write in Italian.

Art for Fun

This is a course for those who wish to improve on existing skills in a relaxed and informal setting. Students will cover a different topic each week and produce their own work using a number of different techniques and media. The tutor will provide a full list of the topics to be covered at the start of the first class.

Ballroom Dancing - beginners

This is a class for anyone who has never danced before but who would like to learn the basic steps involved. The class covers not only Ballroom dancing but some Latin-American dances too. This course offers students the chance to learn the basic steps in a number of popular dances. i.e. the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Tango. Students will also cover a selection of Old Time and Modern sequence dances. Each week students will begin with a revision of what they have learnt and then cover new steps and dances. This course is for anyone who wants to learn the basic steps for ballroom dancing.

This is a class for anyone who has attended dance classes in the past and who would like to improve upon their existing knowledge and learn some further steps. This class covers not only Ballroom dancing but some Latin-American dances too. Beginners Computing

This is the perfect course for anyone who needs to know the basics, whether it is for home use or for progression to a qualification.The aim of this course is to introduce learners to the basic principles of using a computer - using the keyboard and the mouse, simple word processing, creating, printing and saving documents and more. This specially designed course will help students start from the beginning. The course covers topics such as using the keyboard and mouse, basic word processing, how to save a file and lots more! Our qualified tutor is there to help you throughout the time that you are working with us. The total course takes 6 hours to complete over 3 weeks and sessions will take place here, in the learning shop. On completion of this course students will be offered a range of 'follow-on' courses if they wish.

Cake Decorating

These Saturday workshops will introduce students to a number of skills and methods to decorate cakes for special occasions. Students will discover easier ways to create a unique finish to their celebration cakes. This course will offer students the opportunity to learn how to decorate their own special occasion cake. Starting with the basics of covering a fruit cake with marzipan and roll-out icing, students will then go through some simple techniques which will give their cakes the individual touch. This could be for birthdays, anniversaries or Christmas etc, and will also include a demonstration by the tutor

Computerised Accounts using Sage - Level 1

This course is ideal for anyone who is already familiar with double entry book keeping and wants to progress to using a computerised system. The course uses SAGE software and offers students the opportunity to gain a City & Guilds qualification in computerised accounts. Ideal for anyone who needs to do their own accounts, either at home or for a small business

Computers for Improvers

Offered as the ideal progression course for anyone having completed the 6 hour basic computing course, this 4 week course will give students a chance to improve their computing knowledge and gain some new skills. On completion of this course students could progress to one of the more specialised workshops or the Flexible IT course offering a ITQ Level 1 qualification. Course Content This course is aimed at those students with basic computer knowledge who want to improve their existing skills. Students will do further word processing sessions, learn the basics of setting up and using spreadsheets, how to use the internet and internet based e-mailing. This is a relaxed and informal course aimed to build up skills and confidence. Students may wish to consider a qualification course after this one

Digital Photography for Beginners

This course will give beginners an insight into the digital camera. You will take pictures, transfer images to the computer and perform improvements. Course Content Students will learn how to take pictures using a digital camera. How to use different settings to get the best results, download to your computer and manipulate your images. This course investigates your camera's controls with specific photographic tasks designed to introduce one function at a time.
