Workwise is a specialist training organisation, established in 1986, operating from three locations and a retail outlet within Bury St Edmunds. We catering for individuals suffering the effects of long or enduring mental ill health. Workwise runs as a multi-activity workshop ofering those referred to us supported work placements with embedded opportunities to train, thus gaining qualifications as they learn new skills in design and production.

Workwise provides work-based rehabilitation in a supportive but realistic work environment to enable trainees to regain the direction of their lives through employment and community participation.

Workwise has a catchment area of the whole of West Suffolk and a small part of Norfolk. However Workwise Employment Advisors, WorkLink, operate county wide

How to join us: Anyone suffering from a mental health problem can access Workwise by either being referred by their Health Care Professional or Social Worker or GP surgery Link Worker who will help them to apply for a personal budget.

We offer a visit first and if you are interested, a taster day before you decide to start and apply for funding.

Courses offered

Business Administration

Workwise is an emerging Social Firm with additional training facilities, providing work-based rehabilitation for adults who are recovering from various forms of mental health problems. Worklink is our specialist employment facility offering a job matching service and on-going support for trainees and employers

Furniture Making skills

Referrals to Workwise who are interested in working with wood can try a taster and if they feel suited to this work, work along side staff and other trainees in a busy furniture making department. Once a week throughout the year the instructor runs one of a variety of skill based units aimed as introductory course in CNC,hand tools, wood machining, wood finishing and other woodworking skills to help to establish a safe and effective working. These units are Open College Network accredited at level 2 and can be used to accumulate credits toward a National Progression award.

Information Communication Technology

In this department trainees are given the opportunity to acquire basic skills and upward in an Introduction to Using Computers. Other training packages include the eDCC units or more able trainees can complete this package. Trainees will have the opportunity to progress to C.L.A.I.T. Trainees may gain experience working on in-house publications, be involved with customer contracts, but may be learning or improving their IT skills so as to continue computer training in manufacturing, such as CNC, CAD etc

Manufacturing Department

The manufacturing department is a busy department that undertakes a wide range of industrial work from packing to the production of whole products. Trainees can obtain NVQ level 1–2 in Performing Manufacturing Operations. This department also incorporates the

Textiles Craft & Design

Workwise is a multi-activity workshop with additional craft areas and training facilities. Participants will learn the craft of silk painting, whilst working as a member of the design team subject to numbers and availability.

WorkLink Project

The project intends to extend the specialist employment and training advisory service offered by Worklink, o cover the whole of Suffolk and to include any person with physical or sensory disability, learning difficulties and disability and anyone recovering from mental ill health. The service is based on a one-to-one personal approach, with some self-supporting small group working when appropriate and if required.
