Basic Bricklaying Skills - Futures - Short Course

If you would like to build garden walls or basic brick structures, this course provides an introduction to the skills and techniques needed to lay bricks. You will learn how to roll mortar, select bricks and lay them level, to a line and to gauge. The course is workshop based and each week you will undertake a practical bricklaying task designed to develop your skills. For health and safety reasons you will need to provide and wear steel toe-capped footwear. (24 hour course delivered over 8 weeks)

Bricklaying NVQ Level 2

This NVQ2 course involves the planning and interpreting of written and oral information. Practical work includes preparation of site materials and laying bricks in various bonds to form standard structures including manholes, fire places, and arches. Site skills include setting out and planning. You will be working on-site towards an NVQ Level 2 qualification and attending college to complete a City & Guilds Diploma Level 2 technical certificate, which covers Health and Safety as well as key skills in communication, application of number, and information technology. The course includes training in interpreting drawings, oral and written instructions, planning your own work, elements of site administration, health and safety at work procedures, identification and selection of materials, preparation of site materials, mixing mortars, use of hand tools, machinery, access and scaffolding equipment. You will also learn to lay bricks in various bonds to form standard structures such as arches. The technical certificate includes use of information, selection of resources, health and safety, setting out brick and blockwork.

Carpentry Diploma Level 2

The course contains a mixture of practical assessments and theory culminating in a final online examination. Candidates aged 16-19 yrs will also study a Level 2 NCFE qualification which researches project management and one Functional Skill. The Functional Skill will be studied as an integral part of both the Diploma and NCFE qualifications.

City & Guilds 6217 Basic Construction Skills

This course provides a good introduction to trade skills and good practice as well as improving your skill level. You will receive expert tuition from one of the most experienced and competent teaching teams in the Eastern Region and the opportunity to take a Health & Safety test to progress towards obtaining a Basic Site Operative CSCS Card or Site Visitors Card. You will also be provided with full PPE for the construction activities carried out during training and assistance with applications for Health & Safety Tests and CSCS cards.
