IDEA Apprenticeship Scheme: Information for Potential Employers

Provided by IDEA Ltd

Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) are becoming ever more pervasive in our daily lives. Despite this, expanding learning opportunities and career progression remain an issue in the ICT sector and for individuals wanting to develop a career in ICT. Addressing this is the rationale behind IDEA Ltd, a public/private sector partnership involving BT, Cisco, Suffolk New College, University College London, University of East Anglia, University of Essex and University Campus Suffolk. Launched by the Prime Minister in 2009, IDEA Ltd has already made significant progress in developing and delivering learning opportunities through its skills escalator and the development of its Federated Apprenticeship Scheme. 2008/09 saw six people start an IT Professionals Apprenticeship in Suffolk compared to more than thirty apprenticeship opportunities IDEA Ltd has offered between September 2009 and March 2010. The recent award of a Group Training Association (GTA) in collaboration with e-skills, the ICT sector skills council, gives IDEA and its business partners the opportunity to deliver a further 100 apprenticeship opportunities across the East of England in 2010/11
