The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) is suitable for those teaching/training/tutoring in an Associate Teacher Role in the Learning and Skills Sector and who have at least 30 hours of teaching over the duration of the programme.

According to Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) someone is deemed to be in an Associate Teaching Role if their role and responsibilities are to teach predominantly in at least one of the following ways:

From packs/pre-prepared materials, and therefore has limited responsibilities in design of curriculum and materials generally
On a one-to-one basis
On a programme confined to a particular level/subject/type of learner (i.e. does not develop or deliver a full range across a curriculum area
On short courses
An Associate Teacher could be someone whose main occupation is not teaching, but who does deliver learning on a regular or more than an occasional basis.

Entry requirements
Typical Entry Requirements:

You must:
Have a good command of written and spoken English, sufficient to be able to aim to produce assignments at level 4
Have 30 teaching practice hours in an Associate Teacher Role within the Lifelong Learning Sector
Possess at least a minimum level 3 qualification in his/her own area of specialism
Have numeracy and IT skills that will enable the fulfilment of assessment requirements of the course (minimum core)
Have a workplace and/or specialist mentor identified by their organisation who is available to support them throughout the programme
Be able to provide two appropriate and satisfactory references; and provide confirmation of Criminal Bureau Check (CBR) check.
Outcome
Content
As well as providing a firm practical foundation for all those teaching in the Associate Role, course members will also be introduced to the key principles of teaching and learning. The Certificate is designed as a qualification which will equip a wide range of teachers/trainers/tutors and facilitators (e.g. support staff and technicians) to deliver learning and meets all new statutory requirements.

The course aims to:
Provide an initial training of a high quality for practising teachers / tutors/ trainers in the Associate Teacher Role in the Lifelong Learning Sector as articulated by Lifelong Learning UK.
Provide a foundation for further study

What modules will I study?
Students will study three core mandatory modules:

  • Module 1: Preparing for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • Module 2: Planning and Enabling Learning
  • Module 3: Principles and Practice of Assessment

    Students will also take one option module.
