As a Beauty Therapist, you would usually work in a salon with other beauticians, hairdressers etc. Or you can, if you wish, decide to be your own boss and run a ‘mobile’ business, visiting your clients in their own homes. Whatever path you choose, it’s a job you’ll love doing, and you’ll make new friends too

- Qualifications
- On successful completion of this course students will be awarded a Beauty Therapy Level 2 Award.
This award has been independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is comparable to working at GCSE or NVQ Level 2. - Content
- The Course Includes the Following 8 Units:-
Unit 1 - Health and Safety at Work – Safety in the Salon
The following topics are covered: Chemicals; Over-exposure to chemicals; Ventilation; Eye protection; Cumulative trauma disorders; Carpel tunnel syndrome; Matter and energy; Element, atom, compound & molecule; Adhesion; Monomers and polymers; and Light and energy.
Unit 2 – Salon Etiquette
The following topics are covered: Salon conduct; Professional ethics; and Professional appearance.
Unit 3 – Anatomy and Basic Skin Care
The following topics are covered: Function; Structure; Epidermis; Dermis; Body temperature; Nourishment; Nerves; Glands; Skin conditions and disorders; Muscular system; Skeletal system; Blood; and Skin.
Unit 4 – Skin Care & Facials
The following topics are covered: Cleansing the Skin; Make-up removers; Toning the skin; Moisturising the skin; Deep cleansing; Facials; Skin analysis; Massage technique; Exfoliate; and Face masks.
Unit 5 - Enhance Facial Appearance Using Make-Up
The following topics are covered: Face; Eyes; Eyebrows; Lips; Treatment room; Client record card; Reactions; and Application.
Unit 6 – Improving the Appearance & Condition of the Nails
The following topics are covered: Manicure and pedicure; Anatomy; Disorders; Infections; Bacteria; Client consultation; Varnish; Paraffin wax treatment; Hand massage; Pedicure; & Foot massage.
Unit 7 – Remove & Lighten Hair
The following topics are covered: Structure of the hair; Hair removal; Reactions; and Home care advice.
Unit 8 – Improving the Appearance of Eyebrows & Lashes
The following topics are covered: Shaping; Tinting; Perming; False eyelashes; and Reactions
Assessment:
You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Most coursework consists of short paragraph answers to set questions. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
