- The Essential Book-Keeping – Level 2 Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of principles of Book-keeping and undertake essential book-keeping and financial record keeping routines for a small business.

- On successful completion of the course you will receive a recognised level 2 award (Comparable to working at GCSE or NVQ Level 2).
- Qualifications
- The award is gained from successfully completed coursework so there is no exam to complete.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Level 2 Essential Book-Keeping Award.
This award has been independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is comparable to working atGCSE or NVQ Level 2. - Content
- The Course Includes the Following Units:-
- Unit One – Introduction to Book-Keeping
The following topics are covered: Introduction; Double entry bookkeeping; Accounts; Debit and credit entries & VAT; A simple business venture; and the cash book- Unit Two – The Accounts Book
The following topics are covered: Bank and cash records; The ledger; The day books; VAT records; Business documents; Memorandum items; Wages and salaries; Stock records; and The journal- Unit Three – Personal Selling Skills
The following topics are covered: Trading accounts; Profit & loss account; The trial balance; The balance sheet; Accounts of clubs and societies; and Credit control
Assessment:
You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Most coursework consists of short paragraph answers to set questions. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
Objectives:
At the end of the course you will be able to:- Define essential book-keeping terms and principles
- Undertake VAT calculations and complete returns
- Set up and operate cash books
- Reconcile ledger accounts
- Correct account errors
- Understand trading and profit & loss accounts for a sole trader
- Explain balance sheets for a sole trader
- Close off ledger accounts at year-end
- Describe the accounting requirements of non-profit making organisations
