About the Course

Target
This course is designed for directors and owners with fewer than 250 employees.
Entry requirements
No previous health and safety knowledge is required.
Outcome
On completion of this course:
  • Delegates will have a clear understanding of their individual responsibilities as a senior executive within an organisation.

  • Delegates will be able to promote and drive the management of health and safety forward within an organisation.
  • Qualifications
    Successful completion leads to the award of the nationally recognised IOSH certificate.
    Content
    Understanding of the course material is evaluated by means of a 15 minute written assessment paper consisting of 10 multiple choice questions and a project designed to test the delegate's knowledge of acceptable records/documentary evidence required to support an organisation's defence in litigation.

    I tis divided into eight modules:

    1. Aims and Objectives - introduction to the programme.
    2. H&S Management - good business sense, examining the reasons for the promotion of health and safety.
    3. Health and Safety - getting it wrong, raising awareness and understanding of accidents and their causes, consequences and costs.
    4. Health and Safety - getting it right, understanding the priciples of effective health and safety management requirements for compliance with legislation.
    5. Planning for Success - identifying the roles of risk assessment and risk control systems in successful planning.
    6. People, Your Most Valuable Asset - recognising the value of people within the oraganisation and factors affecting their performance.
    7. How Well Are You Performing? - exploring methods of measuring performance.
    8. Improving Performance - considering ways of improving performance.
