This programme is designed for students who wish to gain an understanding of principles and practice of Aromatherapy Healing techniques.

The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive a course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail and email. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.

The course leads to the award of the Certificate in Aromatherapy (Level 3) from ASET, a leading UK awarding body recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

The course leads to the award of the Certificate in Aromatherapy (Level 3) from ASET, a leading UK awarding body recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
Qualifications
The course consists of 12 lessons with set assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework and there is no exam to complete. On completion of this course students will be awarded with the ASET Level 3 Certificate in Aromatherapy. This award is at an equivalent to A Level or NVQ Level 3.
Content
The Objectives of the Course are to:

  • Introduce the development and practice of aromatherapy from its origins to modern day use and application.
  • Explain the chemical composition of carrier oils used in aromatherapy treatments.
  • Investigate the extraction use and effect of essential oils.
  • Demonstrate the importance of the sense of smell to aromatherapy treatments.
  • Explain the limitations, contra indications and toxicities associated wit essential oils.
  • Present guidelines for the use of essential oils.
  • Demonstrate methods of application and use of essential oils.
  • Explain a range of complimentary therapies commonly use in conjunction with aromatherapy

    The course is split into the following 12 Lessons:

  • Lesson One - Introduction to Aromatherapy
    The following topics are covered: What is a aromatherapy; How does it work?

  • Lesson Two - History of Aromatherapy
    The following topics are covered: Historical development of aromatherapy since 3000 BC; and Aromatherapy today.

  • Lesson Three - Chemical compounds in essential oils
    The following topics are covered: Acids; Alcohols; Aldehydes; Esters; Hydrocarbons; Teripins; Lactones; Phenols; Ketones; Ethers; and Oxides.

  • Lesson Four - What are Essential Oils?
    The following topics are covered: Understanding how essential oil is extracted; The uses for essential oils; The effects of essential oils and The importance of quality of essential oils.

  • Lesson Five - The Power of Smell
    The following topics are covered: How the sense of smell works; The importance of smell and The effects of smell.

  • Lesson Six - Cautions
    The following topics are covered: How the sense of smell works; The importance of smell and The effects of smell.

  • Lesson Seven - Carrier Oils
    The following topics are covered: Commonly used carrier oils to carry and dilute massage oil; correct storage for carrier and essential oils; Handling carrier and essential oils; Health and safety issues and Brief descriptions of carrier oils.

  • Lesson Eight - Applying Carrier Oils
    The following topics are covered: Commonly used carrier oils to carry and dilute massage oil; correct storage for carrier and essential oils; Handling carrier and essential oils; Health and safety issues and Brief descriptions of carrier oils.

  • Lesson Nine - Massage
    The following topics are covered: The different effects of massage; The benefits of massage; Make up basic massage oil for face, hair, moods and use in the home using basic recipes; and A basic Knowledge of Reflexology.

  • Lesson Ten - Symptoms
    The following topics are covered: Emotional Symptoms; Physical symptoms; and Prohibited essential oils.

  • Lesson Eleven - Common Essential Oils
    The following topics are covered: Cedar wood; Chamomile; Clary sage; Cypress; Eucalyptus; Frankincense; Geranium; Juniper; Lavender; Lemon; Marjoram; Mint; Orange; Rosewood; Sandalwood; Tangerine; Tea tree; and Ylang Ylang.

  • Lesson Twelve - Introduction to Other Alternative Therapies
    The following topics are covered: Herbalism; Bach Flowers; Homeopathy; Colour Therapy, including Chakras; Crystal Therapy; and Meditation, including Yin and Yang.
