- Looking for an introduction to human anatomy and physiology? Keen to understand how it all works? Then this is the course for you. It covers everything from skeletal system to the digestive system.
About the Course
- Target
- The Advanced Anatomy - Level 3 Course is aimed at those who need to study the subject to a good level and will particularly interest those within Complementary Healthcare, Nursing at those the start of their training as Health Care Assistants.
The Course is provided in the form of a CD ROM and as a manual. The information in each format is virtually identical.
The CD ROM is simple to install. Clear installation instructions are included in the CD booklet. No previous computer experience is required - Entry requirements
- Students must be aged 16 or over and be educated to GCSE level C or above or hold equivalent qualifications
- Outcome
- On successful completion of the course you will receive a recognised level 3 award (Comparable to working at A Level or NVQ Level 3).
- Qualifications
- The award is gained from your successfully completed coursework so there is no exam to complete.
On successful completion of the home study courses students will be awarded an Advanced Human Anatomy Level 3 Award - Content

Unit 1 – Chemistry of Life
The following topics are covered: The Movement of Molecules; Diffusion and Osmosis; Active Transport; Biological Chemicals; Enzymes; Inhibitors; Carbohydrates; Disaccharides; Polysaccharides; Glycogen; Cellulose; Carbohydrate digestion; Atomic Structure; and Chemical Bonding.
Unit 2 – The Cardiovascular & Lymphatic Systems
The following topics are covered: What is Blood?; Red Cells; White Cells; Plasma; Blood Platelets; Blood Groups; The Circulatory System; Blood Vessels; Arteries; Veins; Capillaries; The Heart; and The Lymphatic System.
Unit 3 – The Endocrine System
The following topics are covered: Hypothalamus; Pituitary Gland; Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands; Adrenal Glands; Pancreas; Ovaries/Testes; Pineal and Thymus glands; and Function of the Endocrine System.
Unit 4 – The Skeletal & Muscular Systems
The following topics are covered: The Skeleton; Bone structure; Bone tissue; Joints; Classification of joints; Muscles; Muscular Structure – Face, Head and Neck; Muscular Structure – Shoulders; Muscular Structure – Lower Arms; Muscular Structure – Thigh; Muscular Structure – Lower Leg; Muscular Structure – Trunk Posture; Lifting and Keeping Muscles in Good Condition.
Unit 5 - Respiratory System
The following topics are covered: Upper Respiratory System; Lower Respiratory System; Structure and Functions of the Respiratory System; Lung Capacities; Breathing In – Inspiration; Breathing Out – Expiration; Breathing Rate; Respiratory Diseases; Asthma; Bronchitis; Emphysema; Pneumonoconiosis; Lung Cancer; and Smoking.
Unit 6 – Digestion & Excretion
The following topics are covered: Digestion in the Mouth; Teeth; Saliva; Stomach; Small Intestine; Large Intestine; Secretions and Additional Organs; Excretion and The Kidney Machine.
Unit 7 – Reproduction
The following topics are covered: Female Reproductive System; Male Reproductive System; Life Cycle Development; Family Planning and Contraception; Rhythm method; The Pill; Diaphragm; Condom; IUD; and Sterilisation.
Unit 8 – The Nervous System
The following topics are covered: Central Nervous System; Peripheral Nervous System & Nerves; Function of the Nervous System; and Life Cycle Developments.
Unit 9 – The Integumentary System
The following topics are covered: Skin, Nails & Hair.
Assessment:
You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Most coursework consists of short paragraph answers to set questions. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post. - Cost
