This course is suitable for experienced and physically fit operators.
Entry requirements
Prerequisites
  • CS30 -Maintain and operate the chainsaw, on site preraration and crosscutting
  • CS31 - Fell and process small trees 200mm-380mm
  • Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue
  • CS39 - Use of chainsaw from rope and harness
  • Outcome
    Following completion of this course we can offer an assessment through the National Proficiency Test Council in Unit CS40
    Content
    Learning outcomes/objectives
  • Identify legal and environmental factors that may be present on the work site.
  • Undertake Risk Assessment, and comment upon structure and properties of tree (s) to be worked on.
  • Identify, inspect and comment upon key parts of the equipment to be used.
  • Prepare the equipment for use ensuring safety of operators, others and environment.
  • Operate a chainsaw and other pruning tools whilst maintaining a working position within the crown of a tree using a rope and harness in conjunction with ground staff.
  • Achieve working position to carry out crown thinning and crown reduction.

    Equipment required (Candidate)
  • Safety helmet, incorporating ear defenders, eye protection and chin strap.
  • Chainsaw trousers (all round protection).
  • Chainsaw boots.
  • Chainsaw gloves.
  • Personal first aid kit.
  • Full set of climbing equipment:
    - Harness
    - Minimum of 3 karabiners
    - Strop
    - Prusik loops or other friction knot devices
  • Top handled Chainsaw (maximum guide bar length 350mm/15").
  • Pruning tools
  • Fuel, Oil, Toolkit.
  • For assessment a LOLER certificate is required
