CS30.1 - Maintain and operate the chainsaw
CS30.2 - On site preparation and basic crosscutting - Outcome
- Following completion of this course we can offer an assessment through the National Proficiency Test Council in Unit CS31
NOTE:
We can offer a 5 day "basic Chainsaw" course comprising CS30.1, CS30.2 and CS31, followed by 1 day NPTC assessment. - Content
- Learning outcomes/objectives
- State and identify the necessary protective clothing required.
- Identify faults on a chainsaw and decide which an operator can remedy and which require an engineer.
- Maintain guide bar and sharpen chains to manufacturers guidance.
- Start a chainsaw from hot and cold in a safe manner.
- Select and prepare equipment required for safe & effective felling.
- Fell small trees safely & accurately using appropriate method.
- Fell small trees weighed in the direction of falling using safe technique.
- De-limbing and take down small hung up trees safely using appropriate hand tools.
- Crosscut stems accurately & safely to a given length & diameter specification
Equipment required (Candidate)- Safety helmet, incorporating ear defenders and eye protection.
- Chainsaw gloves.
- Chainsaw trousers.
- Chainsaw boots.
- Personal First Aid kit.
- Chainsaw (maximum guide bar length 350mm/15").
- Fuel, Oil, Toolkit
- State and identify the necessary protective clothing required.
