- The Access Diploma prepares students for degree level study at university. The Diploma is suitable for all students who wish to study a degree in social sciences or related areas e.g. Social Work, Youth Studies, Criminology, Psychology or Sociology. It is a level 3 qualification and is an alternative to A levels.

- Target
- Access courses are specifically designed to give adults returning to education, and who are aiming at a degree or professional qualification, an alternative to a 2 year A level course.
- Entry requirements
- You do not need any previous formal qualifications to enrol on the course as prior work and life experience can be taken into account. However, you will need motivation and some idea of the subject area you would like to study at university.
- Outcome
- This course prepares students for entry to degree level study.

- Content
- You will study modules in Sociology, Psychology, Crime and Deviance and Law. You will also undertake a substantial piece of research.
In Psychology you will study the development of psychology, the different concepts and theories of psychology – e.g. behaviourist and cognitive. In addition, you will also explore qualitative and quantitative methods used by psychologists.
In Sociology you will study the nature and focus of sociological inquiry, including theories of functionalism, Marxism and interactionism.
In Law you will study the Children Act, why it was passed and its implications on divorce and orders to do with children.
In Crime and Deviance you will study the effect of class, race and gender in relation to the incidence of crime. You will also study the effect the media can have in relation to the reporting and perception of crime.
The course also contains study skills and research skills, GCSE equivalents in English and Maths. - Cost

Students aged 19 or over at 31 August 2008 will pay a fee of £390 (which includes £275 tuition fee + internal registration fee + external registration fee)
