- This 1 day Lantra awards course covers the use of the chainsaw in the tree to carry out a range of tree cutting techniques.
About the Course
- Target
- It is aimed at the more experienced and physically fit operator and ensures that candidates can operate the chainsaw while in the tree in a safe manner.
- Entry requirements
- Prerequisites:
- CS30 - Maintain and operate the chainsaw, on site preparation and basic crosscutting
- CS31 - Fell and process small trees 200mm-380mm
- Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue
- CS30 - Maintain and operate the chainsaw, on site preparation and basic crosscutting
- Outcome
- Following completion of this course we can offer an assessment through the National Proficiency Test Council in Unit CS39.
NOTE
For experienced operators we can offer a 5 day “basic tree climbing” course comprising tree climbing, aerial rescue and using a chainsaw from a rope and harness followed by 1 day NPTC assessment. - Content
- Learning outcomes/objectives
- Aware of legislation and safety guidelines for tree climbing, and using a chainsaw from rope and harness.
- Identify, inspect and comment upon key points of equipment to be used.
- Prepare equipment for use ensuring the safety of themselves, others and the environment.
- Operate chainsaw whilst maintaining a working position within the crown of the tree, using a rope and harness.
- Understand importance of, and apply correct final pruning positions, the 1-2-3 method of branch removal and appropriate use of undercuts.
- Use top handled and rear handled chainsaws efficiently and safely to remove light and medium weight branches.
Equipment required (Candidate)- Safety helmet, incorporating ear defenders, eye protection and chin strap.
- Chainsaw trousers (all round protection).
- Chainsaw boots.
- Chainsaw gloves.
- Personal First Aid kit.
- Full set of climbing equipment:
- Harness
- Minimum of 4 karabiners
- Strop
- Prusik loops or other friction knot devices- Top handle Chainsaw (maximum guide bar length 350mm/15")
- Fuel, Oil, Toolkit.
- For assessment a LOLER certificate is required
- Aware of legislation and safety guidelines for tree climbing, and using a chainsaw from rope and harness.
